Welcome to Bali, Island of the gods, one of a chain of islands which make up the Indonesian Archepelago. The Balinese are gentle, friendly people, always ready to greet with a smile, and happy to be of assistance. They are very welcoming of visitors to the island, and appreciate the benefits that tourism has brought to the island, and in return ask that visitors respect their faith (mainly hindu, but also moslem and christian) culture and traditions.
Bali is dominated by it’s two main geological features, they are the volcanoes Mt Batur, which you can see close up from Kintamani village, and it’s bigger brother, Mt Agung, which last erupted in 1963. At 10,000 ft, Mt Agung towers over the landscape in East Bali.
Diving in Bali is sometimes overlooked by those diving Komodo, Flores, Lombok, and some of the other islands, but Bali has some great dives too. The wreck at Tulamben, the drift diving off Padang Bai, spotting big pelagics, such as Sun fish off Nusa Penida, and searching for such species as the pygmy sea-horse at Menjangan Island, to mention a few.
Bali offers some of the best accommodation, at great prices, with service the equal of any you may experience. It also has many fine renowned restaurants for fine dining. The Balinese people are extremely hospitable, and will help make your stay a memorable one. They have a ready smile, and a can-do attitude, which should please even the most demanding of guests.I can’t think of another destination I have visited where a taxi driver has thanked me for visiting them.
Bali is also a very affordable destination. It compares very favourably in value when put against most other popualar destinations.
